Vigilance Watch · Editorial pilot

Follow the discussion. Examine the evidence.

Public conversations raise important questions about safety. Vigilance Watch connects those questions with authoritative information and professional context across medicines, cosmetics, and medical devices.

Opening brief ·

Three questions for more useful safety conversations.

This source-led opening brief sets out our editorial lens. It does not report measured social trends: no social-platform sample was collected for this edition.

Medicines · Pharmacovigilance

A safety question needs assessment, not amplification.

Authoritative source
EMA explains that a safety signal warrants investigation; its presence does not establish that a medicine caused an event.
PiVily perspective
When discussing a safety concern, distinguish a reported experience, a signal under assessment, and an established regulatory conclusion.
Question to carry forward
What has actually been assessed, by whom, and with what conclusion?

Cosmetics · Cosmetovigilance

Make the route from a concern to a report clearer.

Authoritative source
FDA provides instructions for reporting cosmetic product complaints and adverse events, with routes for consumers, health professionals, and industry.
PiVily perspective
An educational discussion about a skin reaction should help readers find the appropriate reporting route. A public post alone does not establish product causation.
Question to carry forward
Does the reader know where to report a suspected problem in their jurisdiction?

Medical devices · Device vigilance

Keep safety communication tied to the specific device and notice.

Authoritative source
FDA publishes device safety communications describing its assessment of issues and recommendations for relevant audiences.
PiVily perspective
Interpret a notice in its stated scope: device, affected users, jurisdiction, publication date, and recommended next steps. Avoid extending it to every product in a category.
Question to carry forward
Which products and audiences does the official communication actually cover?

Approach & scope

Listen with context. Publish with care.

We are developing a monthly editorial digest. This pilot is manually curated; continuous monitoring, platform integrations, and a social-listening service are not currently offered.

Future discussion-based editions will identify the review period, public sources or platforms, selection method, geography and language limits, and relevant disclosures. Selected examples cannot establish prevalence, incidence, or the views of an entire population.

We will distinguish observed discussion, authoritative findings, editorial interpretation, and unresolved questions. Public professional and organizational sources take priority. We do not collect private-group conversations or republish identifiable patient stories.

WHO’s ethical guidance for social listening in public-health emergencies provides a useful reference for considering privacy, purpose, and potential harm. Its context differs from this independent editorial feature.

Vigilance Watch is educational editorial content. It does not provide medical advice, determine product causation, or replace regulated safety monitoring and reporting.

PiVily is not an adverse-event reporting channel. Please do not submit patient details or safety cases here. Use your local regulator’s or the manufacturer’s reporting route; our official-source directory helps you locate regulators.
